Security Guard: A Stressful Position

security guard position is stressful

Earlier this year we told you about four stories from around the country that illustrated how dangerous a security guard position can be. Nearly every week, there is a story in the news about a guard being attacked in some way.

In this article, we revisit that topic to further illustrate just how dangerous and stressful the job really is.

Security Guard Threatened – August 15, 2018

A Santa Fe woman was asked to leave a McDonalds restaurant several times for being unruly. She grew agitated, grabbed several hypodermic needles, and chased the store’s security guard into the parking lot. She threatened to stab him with the needles.

The guard eventually handcuffed her and called police. The woman was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Security Guard Accosted – August 15, 2018

A Lincoln, Nebraska man was found naked in a business lot by the security guard working there. When confronted by the guard, the man slapped him in the face and urinated on the security vehicle.

This man didn’t just accost the guard, though. He also attacked a police officer, and jumped on the hood of the cruiser.

Security Guard Stabbed – August 12, 2018

A Phoenix security guard working at the Fry’s Food Store was struck in the back by a knife. A man trying to steal a bicycle but stopped by the guard threw the knife. The guard suffered a 1-inch cut on his back. The attacker was charged with aggravated assault.

Security Guard Stabbed – August 7, 2018

A security officer working at a Houston apartment complex was stabbed after he tried to stop a fight between a man and a woman. When the guard stepped in to break up the fight, the man stabbed him.

Security Guard Murdered – July 11, 2018

A security guard working outside an Atlanta music studio was murdered. 30-year-old Scott Marthone suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head. Little is know about the shooter at this time, but police are looking for people of interest seen in surveillance video.

The Bottom Line

The above five news stories all happened within five weeks. They further illustrate the point that guards work in a potentially dangerous position, never knowing what they will face when they go to work.

Their job is a difficult one: Trying to protect property and people without the powers of law enforcement.
